Understanding YES/NO Shares

YES Shares

Buying YES means you believe the outcome will happen:
Market: "Will Bitcoin reach $100k by 2024?"
Buy YES at $0.60 → You believe it will happen
If correct → Each share worth $1.00
Your profit: $1.00 - $0.60 = $0.40 per share

NO Shares

Buying NO means you believe the outcome will NOT happen:
Market: "Will Bitcoin reach $100k by 2024?"
Buy NO at $0.40 → You believe it won't happen
If correct → Each share worth $1.00
Your profit: $1.00 - $0.40 = $0.60 per share
Market Prices: YES + NO prices always equal 1.00.IfYESis1.00. If YES is 0.70, NO is $0.30.

Understanding Market Prices

Market prices represent the probability that the market assigns to an outcome:
PriceMeaningExample
$0.9090% likelyVery confident YES
$0.7070% likelyModerately confident YES
$0.5050/50Toss-up
$0.3030% likelyModerately confident NO
$0.1010% likelyVery confident NO
Finding Value: Look for markets where you think the probability is different from the price. If a market is priced at $0.40 but you think it’s 60% likely, that’s a value opportunity!

Risk Management

Position Sizing

Smart traders use proper position sizing:
Conservative: 1-5% of balance per trade
Moderate: 5-10% of balance per trade
Aggressive: 10-20% of balance per trade
Never Risk Everything: Don’t put all your funds in one position. Diversify across multiple markets to manage risk.

Stop-Loss Strategy

Consider closing positions that:
  • Move significantly against you
  • Have changed circumstances
  • No longer represent good value

Take Profit Strategy

Consider taking profits when:
  • Position reaches target profit
  • Market sentiment shifts
  • New information emerges

Profit Examples

Example 1: Winning YES Trade

Buy: 100 YES shares at $0.60 = $60 spent
Outcome: Event happens
Payout: 100 shares × $1.00 = $100
Profit: $100 - $60 = $40 (66.7% return)

Example 2: Winning NO Trade

Buy: 100 NO shares at $0.40 = $40 spent
Outcome: Event doesn't happen
Payout: 100 shares × $1.00 = $100
Profit: $100 - $40 = $60 (150% return)

Example 3: Losing Trade

Buy: 100 YES shares at $0.70 = $70 spent
Outcome: Event doesn't happen
Payout: $0 (shares worthless)
Loss: $70 (100% of investment)
Maximum Risk: You can lose 100% of the USDC you spend on a position if you’re wrong.

Market Resolution

Markets resolve in three ways:
  1. Automatic Resolution: Clear outcomes (sports scores, election results)
  2. Oracle Resolution: Official sources confirm outcome
  3. Community Resolution: UMA protocol voting if disputed
After resolution:
  • Winning shares → $1.00 each
  • Losing shares → $0.00
  • USDC automatically credited to your wallet
